Prayer of Preparation

Dear God, silence all voices within our minds but your own.
Help us to seek and be able to follow your will.
May our prayers be joined
with those of our sisters and brothers in the faith,
that together we may glorify your name
and enjoy your fellowship forever.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.

A Cry for Deliverance

Heavenly Father, save us entirely from sin.

We know we are righteous through the righteousness of another, but we long to reflect your likeness;

We are your children and should bear your image, enable us to recognize our death unto sin; when it tempts us may we be deaf unto its voice.

Deliver us from the invasion as well as the dominion of sin. Grant us to walk as Christ walked, to live in the newness of his life, the life of love, the life of faith, the life of holiness.

We abhor these bodies of death, their idleness, envy, meanness, and pride.

Forgive, and kill these vices, have mercy on our unbelief, on our corrupt and wandering hearts.

When your blessings come we begin to idolize them, and set our affections on the creation rather than the creator.

Cleanse our spiritual adultery and give us purity; close our hearts to all but you.

Sin is our greatest curse; let your victory over it be apparent to our consciousness, and displayed in our lives.

Help us to be always devoted, confident, obedient, resigned, childlike in our trust of you, to love you with soul, body, mind, strength, to love others as we love ourselves,

to be saved from unregenerate tempers, hard thoughts, slanderous words, meanness, unkind manners, to master our tongues and guard the door of our lips.

Fill us with grace daily, that our lives may be overflowing fountains of sweet water for your glory and for the fame of the Gospel, Amen.

Doxology: Jude 24-25

Now to him who is able to keep you from stumbling and to present you blameless before the presence of his glory with great joy, to the only God, our Savior, through Jesus Christ our Lord, be glory, majesty, dominion, and authority, before all time and now and forever. Amen.

-Jude 24-25 (ESV)

Corporate Prayer of Confession

Merciful God, we confess that we have sinned against you in thought, word, and deed, by what we have done, and by what we have left undone. We have not loved you with our whole heart and mind and strength. We have not loved our neighbors as ourselves. In your mercy forgive what we have been, help us amend what we are, and direct what we shall be, so that we may delight in your will and walk in your ways, to the glory of your holy name. Through Christ, our Lord. Amen.

Prayer of Confession from Psalm 25

Remember your mercy, O Lord, and your steadfast love, for they have been from of old.

Remember not the sins of our youth or our transgressions; according to your steadfast love remember us, for the sake of your goodness, O Lord!

Good and upright is the Lord; therefore he instructs sinners in the way.

For your name’s sake, O Lord, pardon our guilt, for it is great. Turn to us and be gracious to us, for we are lonely and afflicted.

The troubles of our hearts are enlarged; bring us out of our distresses.

Consider our affliction and our trouble, and forgive all our sins.

-adapted from Psalm 25:6-8, 11, 16-18 (ESV)

Prayer of Adoration based on Psalm 36:5-9

O Lord, Your steadfast love extends to the heavens, your faithfulness to the clouds. Your righteousness is like the mountains of God; your judgments are like the great deep. How precious is your steadfast love, O God! We take refuge in the shadow of your wings. We feast on the abundance of your house and you give us drink from the river of your delights. For with you is the fountain of life; in your light do we see light. Amen.

-based on Psalm 36:5-9 (ESV)

Benediction: Hebrews 13:20-21

Now may the God of peace who brought again from the dead our Lord Jesus, the great shepherd of the sheep, by the blood of the eternal covenant, equip you with everything good that you may do his will, working in us that which is pleasing in his sight, through Jesus Christ, to whom be glory forever and ever.

-Hebrews 13:20-21 (ESV)
